Dear Neighbors,
Thank you to the many people in our district (4A) who have stepped in during the past year, to protect our families during the ICE invasion, to serve on Friends Of committees or PTOs, to work on building our Sustainable Community School Village, or to volunteer in a school. I have felt so proud to be part of a community with caring neighbors who are willing to invest effort in our schools.
I’ve seen many of you as I’ve been hard at work supporting the fifteen schools in our district–talking with principals, listening to parents, and getting input from students in the service of problem solving to make our schools better. With my school board colleagues, I have learned a tremendous amount about the workings of the district. We have engaged in work to secure funding to protect classrooms, chosen a CEO committed to our values, and found ways to hold charter schools accountable for serving the needs of all their students. I will share some of this work in other pages on this website.
We have made a start on the necessary work for ensuring that CPS is a district that walks the walk to bring about equity and doesn’t just talk the talk. From implementing the Black Student Success Plan to expanding Sustainable Community Schools, our team has a shared vision of what needs to be transformed in our district to truly give a rigorous, engaging, and joyful daily experience to every child. I hope you will support me in continuing to make our vision real.
Karen
