Karen is honored to receive an endorsement from JCUA Votes. The following is what they wrote about Karen in their endorsement announcement.
Karen has the experience, the dedication, and the alignment on values that JCUA Votes is looking for in a candidate to bring what the community needs to the School Board. She is committed to sufficient funding for ALL Chicago public schools, so that all children in CPS can get the quality education they need and deserve. And she is committed to promoting and creating spaces for the involvement of communities in the Chicago Board of Education, and enhancing the involvement of communities in their schools, so that schools can be reflective of the communities in which they are situated.
Her long experience as a CPS parent and a CPS teacher, and an activist and organizer in both of those roles, is vital. She was a leader in the fight to ensure that there would be a CPS school in the current location of Uplift High School, and that that school would be a Sustainable Community School. Karen remained and taught at Uplift until she retired in June.
Karen also fought for there to BE an elected school board in Chicago. As a champion in that campaign, she will be a critical voice on this newly elected school board. Karen shares our values AND has the proven track record of knowing how to do what it takes to put those values into action. We are excited to get Karen elected on November 5th!
